Currently, there is a Highlight on Impressionism in the art room at IHMCS. In most grades I try to relate at least one lesson to the artistic style which is being "Highlighted" before I move on to a new artistic style. Having one style on "Highlight" for a few weeks at a time gives me a chance to feel more organized and on-top of what I am teaching. This way the students have some visual cues scattered around the room to help keep them on track with their art by giving lots of different examples of that style of art. I also use the examples I place around the room to teach Art History, Aesthetics, and Art Criticism on an ongoing basis.
Our Highlight on Impressionism has yielded lots of impressive artwork so far! 1st and 7th grades have been working on painting in an Impressionistic style, and the 2nd graders just begun a paper collage project which makes use of a similar color layering technique.
We have some very talented artists at IHM! Be sure to look for some of our Impressionist work on display around the school and on sale next month at Grand Celebration!
